Darren GoodsellCompensation, it is not our companies policy.
Above: Darren Goodsell discusses compensation for the damage to the house and our furniture and the loss of water for a 10 day period, this was shortly after agreeing that the door in the bedroom was a danger and that it would be replaced within one week. Below: True colours. What Amicus Horizon really think about me and others.
Amicus Horizons area surveyor Ron Grimmer discussing me with a member of Booker and Best Ltd who I have never met. Mr Grimmer seems determined to set the opinion that any workmen might have of me before they even start work. I apologise for Mr Grimmers foul language thats just the type of person he is.
Amicus Horizon homes all with disabled tenants or family members who have suffered abuse from Amicus Horizon staff, or had repair requests ignored or badly done.
House 1, Robert Poiles Amicus Horizons newbuild property in Beckley. Amicus Horizon were forced to pay Mr poile damages of £41,000 and make alterations to his property that cost an estimated £50,000. House 2, Mark Steels Amicus home in Bromley, after a struggle that lasted over a year Amicus Horizon have finally agreed to temporarily rehouse Mr steel and his family while repairs are carried out. House 3, Graeme Morgan Amicus Horizon home in Hastings, In response to our requests for repairs and the complaint from ourselves regarding the quality of the door installation in the video (top left) Booker and Best Ltd cut off our gas for 30b days during the coldest winter in 30 years. Amicus Horizon ceased all contact including repairs disabled adaptations and complaints procedures and we are still 17th, June, 2010 waiting for those repairs/installations. Pictures below: A few pictures of some of the problems in the three houses.

5 Year old Amicus Horizon property in Beckley, repairs cost an estimated $50,000
Amicus Horizon electrical installation in lounge in Bromley property
Door to Bromley property was left like this for two weeks following porch removal by builder
Lengths we and other tenants are forced to go to in order to get repairs completed, disabled installations/adaptations that cost Amicus Horizon nothing at all, fair treatment is our target, we`re not there yet, or even close.
Just us trying to have a laugh but none of the things Amicus Horizon have done to us or our children are funny, Amicus Horizon show no remorse or concern regarding the effects that their policies or their staffs dreadful behaviour have on their tenants or their children, the level of compensation obtained by Robert Poile shows the seriousness of their misconduct, the damage that Amicus Horizon do to families is not something that heals or can be compensated for.
Amicus Horizon Housing Association change their name whenever it suits them, none of their previous names enjoyed a good reputation, the period that they seemed to perform best for their tenants was while they were under supervision, which is exactly where we would like to see them again so that it becomes important to them to carry out repairs and other obligations under their housing tenancies. We have submitted our complaints to: 1. East Sussex County council who told us that our problems would be sorted out very quickly after they passed our complaint to councillor Anne Bird. 2. Councillor Jeremy Birch, he said that he would look into it and get back to us, he had no faith in Anne Bird because he said, she sits on the Amicus Horizon board. We heard nothing from either of them following these promises. 4. Amber Rudd MP who is currently considering our complaints. 5. Hastings council, Mr Palmer from Hastings council has been very helpful and supportive, the rest seem to be completed managed by Amicus Horizon. 6. Equality and Human Rights Commission. They have been really helpful and have agreed that I have done everything that I could reasonably be expected to do and they are referring my file. 7.) Housing Ombudsman. They try but have little power to force councils or housing Associciations, they also agreed that I had done everything that I could do and advised me to seek legal advice. 8.) Shelter were very helpful and directed us to a solicitor. 9. The police said that they preferred these matters to be dealt with in a civil court but they were extremely helpful and supportive. 10. The Crown Prosecution Service said that disability discrimination is never prosecuted under criminal law unless there is physical violence.
As helpful as some of the above were the fact is that in the end the civil court is the only avenue that is really open to people with these sorts of problems and rogue landlords/associations/builders are not really put off by the threat of legal action in the civil courts because they are aware of how very difficult it can be to get legal aid and how strenuous it is for complainants to last the course in bringing difficult civil actions against powerful companies.
We have our legal aid certificate now and we will stay the course but court action should never be necessary if you are dealing with a reputable company.
